In the Beginning
In 1982 Morris Ritz graduated from South Africa’s Witwatersrand University with a degree in medicine and was awarded the Sonya Walker Prize in physiology. Once he finished his medical degree Dr Ritz then went on to undertake post-graduate studies focusing on reconstructive plastic surgery. After he completed his post-graduate studies Dr Morris Ritz spent a year in Melbourne at St. Vincent’s Hospital as a microsurgery research and hand fellow. In 1992 he was presented a fellowship with honour from The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
The South African Knowledge Experience
When Dr Ritz returned to South Africa, as well as running his own private practise he headed the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Johannesburg’s Baragwanath Hospital from 1992 to 1995. In 1997, after receiving a fellowship for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in plastic surgery, Morris Ritz was appointed senior registrar at The Austin Hospital and Repatriation Medical Centre for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

He has been awarded many accolades including the Synthes Prize for best publication from the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Southern Africa and The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa’s Phyllis Knocker/Bradlow Award for the most distinguished graduate in academic excellence. Since winning these awards he has been published professionally and has toured Australia and overseas extensively presenting seminars.
